Sunday Evening
3-24-02 Sunday Evening
Friends and Family,
Thank you for your continued prayers, support, words of encouragement,
stories of God's working in your lives. You have been such a blessing to our
family. May God's Face shine upon you....
Jeff
Jeff had a very good day today. His spirit is strong and God is working in
him and through him. He is thankful "he is mobile" and gets to see both
Samuel and Cindy. He spent about 2 hours with Cindy today. They thoroughly
enjoyed their time together. They were able to talk, share, and enjoy each
other's company. Jeff was also able to visit with his Mom. It was good for
him to see her! Continue to pray for his healing. His ears are badly
damaged, and his hearing is impaired. This is rather frustrating for Jeff.
Pray he will get a good night's sleep tonight.
Cindy
Cindy is experiencing substantial pain in her ears this evening. The doctors
think it might be a side effect of the antibiotic they are giving her. If it
doesn't stop or gets worse they will change the antibiotic. They do NOT want to change antibiotics, because they have already been changed once. They are concerned about her building up a resistance to the antibiotics. Pray her
body will receive the medications without side effects. They decided not to
remove the drains in the wound after all. They think the drains will be in
for another 4-5 days. She is still bleeding out of them. Her blood count is
still low. But....her color is getting better and she is feeling stronger.
Pray the bleeding will stop and her blood count will return to normal
quickly. She thinks they will allow her to move around in a wheel chair
tomorrow. Translated - she will get to see Samuel!!! It will be the first
time since the incident. Pray that
God will Make a Way!!!
Samuel
This morning Samuel was awake and talking and drinking and eating....this
afternoon the report was not as good. As he dosed he was fussing, crying
softly, and saying everything hurts. There was even one incident where he
was screaming in pain. Jeff said, "He just lays there and softly cries,
'Ouchie, ouchie, ouchie'." When they comfort him by touching him or talking
with him, he settles down and drifts deeper into sleep.
Samuel not only suffered significant injuries to the head, but has little
holes all over his body burnt into it from the shrapnel. When the shrapnel
makes contact, it burns and cuts at the same time. Jeff described the holes
it created as "small craters." Many requiring stitches. Pray these wounds
will heal with no scarring. There is also still a little bleeding. Pray it
stops. They are giving him pain medication, but he is apparently still in a
great deal of pain. Pray the pain will subside and that he will sleep well
tonight. Pray also for those ministering to Samuel right now - we can only
imagine how hard that must be to listen to his cries.
Another concern is Samuel has not moved his left arm since leaving Pakistan. He is unable to move it and has been unable to squeeze the doctor's hand
during evaluations. Jeff believes he saw him move it at the hospital in Pak,
but he hasn't since. Samuel says it won't move. Pray that Samuel will move
his left arm TOMORROW, that he will eat more and the pain will subside.
The doctors say he is improving and should continue to do so a little every
day. There is a chance he will be moved out of intensive care and into a
normal room soon. Emily and Luke would be able to visit him more if he were
in a normal room. They would also allow him to move around a little more.
Pray that works out!!!
Susan Womble
Jeff said as soon as she arrived they put her to work! She stayed with
Samuel this afternoon. I'm not sure that Grandma Susan would call that
"work." :) Pray that God would sustain her and use her mightily in Samuel's
life.
Rees and Frankie, Emily and Luke
Frankie, Emily and Luke picked up Susan at the airport this morning, then
went to see Jeff, Cindy and Samuel at the hospital. Rees rested up for the
night shift with Samuel again tonight. Continue to lift them up to God for
strength, endurance, patience, peace, gentleness, and loving kindness.
We are very thankful for all God has done in the lives of the Wombles this
past week. We praise Him for the many miracles both abroad and here at home.
We have seen GOD work!! All of our lives have been touched by the Hand of
God...
Thank you, God!!!! Thank you for all You are doing and for all You have
done!!!
Our prayer is for continued healing, for a peace that passeth understanding,
and for joy in the morning...
Resting in Him,
The Nickersons
