Our Prayer is God would be glorified...

4-3-02 Through Christ

Friends and Family,

The Scriptures tell us in Phillipians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."  The Wombles and the Nickersons have been walking in that strength for the past eighteen days.  As we have watched the story unravel, we have seen the Fingerprints of God everywhere.  He has been present!  He was in the Church at Pakistan the day of the attack...He spared their lives and the lives of many others.  He was in the air ambulance as the Wombles were medivac'd to their current location...He kept the air pressure exactly where it needed to be and provided Christian brothers to fly them over.  He has been in the hospital rooms, the surgical rooms, the hallways, the trips to and from the hospital, at the apartment with the children, here with us as we write the updates, and all over the world with those of you who have been praying.  Yes, God has been here!!  And...He has helped His children "do all things through Christ which strengthens us."

Rees said today that God is strengthening all of them.  They are tired, but are being lifted up by your prayers.  They continue to send their thanks for your prayers and words of encouragement.  They are extremely touched and overwhelmed by the vast number of prayer warriors interceding on their behalf.  It has encouraged them to continue to pray, to hope and to trust God with the outcome...

Cindy
Cindy is continuing to improve daily.  The doctor removed her stitches today.  Her wounds have no signs of infection.  Her blood count is better.  She is able to move around her room with the aid of a walker and her physical therapist.  She is very encouraged about her improvement.  There is a knot on the back of her knee that has caused a little concern.  The doctor will be examining it to determine what the cause of it is - infection, a piece of shrapnel, etc.  Please continue to pray her body will resist any infection from entering it.

Jeff
Jeff is doing well.  He is spending the night with Samuel tonight.  He does have an ear infection.  He is now on antibiotics.  Pray his ears will heal quickly and he will not have any further complications with his injuries.  Pray he will be able to return to the States soon so he can receive the medical treatment he needs.

Samuel
We have an answer to prayer for Samuel!!  He was able to urinate on his own this afternoon!!  This is a good sign - we are heading in the right direction!  Rees sounded very encouraged by this report.   His digestive system not functioning properly and the difficulty with bodily functions has created great concern.

Samuel's catscan this morning did not show any improvement in the brain since surgery.  The doctors were not pleased with the catscan.  Another catscan is planned for the first of next week.  The doctors do not want to do any more surgeries on Samuel.  They believe it would be best for Samuel to return to the States for further medical treatment.  Please pray he will remain stabilized long enough for us to get him to the States.

Samuel's wounds are healing well.  He continues to have psychological episodes and outbursts.   At times, he has to be physically restrained to prevent him from harming himself.  His cries and screams for relief are very heart wrenching, especially when those around him are helpless to relieve the pain.  Samuel screams very loudly in 10 - 15 minute increments.  All of this is very difficult for the medical staff and his caregivers.  PLEASE lift them up in your prayers.  Please also pray for wisdom for the doctors, nurses and the family.  Pray for wisdom to know what is creating the episodes and for some direction on how to control them.  Rees has indicated Samuel responds well to prayers when he is upset.  If they begin to pray over him, he seems to calm down.  Please continue to pray...

Cindy was able to visit with Samuel last night.  The nurses rolled her bed into the room with Samuel.  Samuel had an episode while Cindy was present.  Rees said it was very difficult for her.  Please continue to pray for emotional healing for all of them.  As you can imagine, this has been a very trying time for them.

We are praying for miracles...we serve a God Who answers prayers!!

Through Christ,
Nick and Donna Nickerson
